2013 in Review: A Year of Evolution
As we look back on 2013, we recall a year full of change and growth. Regulatory updates, functionality updates, new industries and new products all contributed to last year’s developments.
Some significant regulatory changes occurred in 2013. The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) required all offshore operators impacted by their Safety and Environmental Management Systems (SEMS) requirement to submit their first SEMS audit last November. During these audits, offshore operators used ISNetworld’s Training Qualification tool to verify their contractors’ individual level training.
Also in November, OSHA proposed a new recordkeeping rule that will require all businesses with more than 250 employees to submit their electronic safety records on a quarterly basis. ISN contractors will find themselves ahead of the game since their quarterly records are already updated in ISNetworld.
One of our most popular pieces of functionality received some significant updates. The ISNetworld Agent/Broker Tool now includes a comprehensive directory of ISNetworld registered insurance agents and allows multiple agents and brokers to submit certificates for a single Certificate Holder. In addition, registered agents and brokers can now submit their insured’s EMR letters on behalf of their customers.
After conducting a study confirming that almost half of subscribed contractors did not report having a company website, ISN created the My Company Website tool. Now, contractors can easily build their own website and establish an online presence hosted on the ISN servers. To date, more than 500 contracting companies have created a website through ISN.
To increase accessibility, we developed a mobile version of our website. The new ISNetworld Mobile functionality allows customers to view subscribers’ ISNetworld accounts from a smartphone anytime, anyplace, including contractor grades, training records and digital ISN ID cards.
ISN expanded its presence in several industries in 2013 including the Public Sector and Transportation industries. The University of Calgary partnered with ISN to support the safety of their facilities and operations. As part of its proactive approach to safety, the University will leverage the contractor data collected, verified and maintained in ISNetworld. We concluded the year by welcoming Canadian Pacific Railway (CP). As our first rail client, CP has a strong organizational safety culture, and we will work with their contractors to maintain safe working environments at their facilities. We added over 70 new Hiring Clients in 2013 and now have a presence in more than 75 countries around the globe.
In April, we hosted our 2013 Annual Users Conference, with former President George W. Bush serving as our keynote speaker. The conference offered the opportunity to learn from industry experts, hear about functionality updates and network with other ISNetworld subscribers. All in all, we welcomed more than 9,000 attendees at various ISN meetings in 2013.
ISN released our annual Health & Safety Performance Indicators series, allowing Hiring Clients and contractors to measure themselves against their peers and industry standards. In three separate reports issued last year, ISN Hiring Clients were anonymously ranked according to performance indicators, allowing our customers to benchmark their health and safety performance.
To end the year on a high note, we gave our public website a fresh and streamlined new design. The updated ISN.com now houses a video library, a dedicated newsroom that features benchmarking reports and industry news and Hiring Client-specific implementation pages that communicate requirements and next steps for new contractors.
Lastly, ISN reached a major milestone in 2013 by adding more than 7,000 new contractors, pushing our total subscriber count to more than 50,000. As we move forward into the new year, our goal is to continue to develop and enhance functionalities and services, new products and expanded capabilities to ensure that ISNetworld meets the needs of our customers. We would like to thank our customers for contributing to a successful and exciting year, and we look forward to working together in 2014.
