ISN Hosts Roundtable to Discuss Pipeline Industry Best Practices
“We were pleased to have so many client representatives in our office engaged in conversation to improve the industry.”
– Julie Connelly, Director at ISN
Companies impacted by the Department of Transportation Operator Qualification (OQ) Regulation attended the 8th annual OQ Roundtable meeting held at ISN Headquarters in Dallas, Texas, on October 30, 2013. More than 50 attendees from businesses such as Kinder Morgan, Enterprise Products and BP Pipelines & Logistics met to share best practices among leading experts in the pipeline industry.
Many ISN Hiring Clients use ISNetworld to track both contractor and employee OQ records to ensure that they meet Federal Regulations. As of October 30, 2013, ISNetworld housed a total of 667,227,425 current and archived OQ Qualifications.
Warren Miller from PHMSA kicked off the meeting by providing a summary of the OQ Vendor Meeting that was held the previous day at ISN headquarters. Representatives from Hiring Clients, contractors and 3rd Party OQ Providers participated in the meeting by sharing data integrity best practices as it relates to evaluators and the evaluation process.
Enterprise Products shared how their company ties ISNetworld to their internal database to meet regulatory and company specific standards. Together, the API OQ Work Group and the ASME B31Q technical standard committee discussed the potential upcoming updates to mirror the OQ Enforcement Guidance.
ISN representatives demonstrated new functionality released thus far in 2013, as well enhancements that will be available for members in the upcoming months. During the open discussion, several companies shared their internal processes regarding small contractor companies and subcontractors.
The Roundtable was beneficial for all parties to share best practices and industry knowledge. As a result, several companies have decided to coordinate a working group to continue sharing information and ideas for improving their contractor management strategies.
Details on the next OQ Roundtable will be announced in early 2014. Until then, a list of ISN meetings and upcoming industry events is available on the ISN Events page.
