New K+S Mine in Saskatchewan Continues Progress Toward Responsible Job Creation
“K+S is fully committed to ensuring that the Legacy Project site holds itself to the same high standards for safety as the rest of our operations. We believe ISNetworld will be an invaluable tool in streamlining our contractor management processes and protecting our workers and local communities.”
– Colin Braithwaite, K+S Vice President, Health Safety & Security
K+S Potash Canada GP (K+S) continues to make advances on its massive new Legacy Project mine in Saskatchewan, which is slated to begin potash production in 2016. K+S announced it will be implementing the contractor management database, ISNetworld, at the site this year to help maintain and verify pre-qualification information on its contract workers during construction.
The company anticipates that the project will create more than 1,100 jobs and roughly six million hours of employment at its peak this year, and it will continue to utilize contract workers along with approximately 320 full-time employees after full production begins in 2016. The need to manage those contractors and suppliers in a manner that protects the health and safety of workers and the environment prompted the implementation of ISNetworld.
K+S is putting its more than one hundred years of mining experience and world-class expertise to work on the Legacy Project, a potash mine and production facility being built near Moose Jaw. It will be the first new greenfield potash mine built in Saskatchewan in nearly forty years.
ISNetworld will provide an extra level of due diligence for K+S. ISN’s Review and Verification Services (RAVS) collects and measures health, safety, procurement, environmental, quality and other information against requirements set both by the company and Canadian regulatory bodies to ensure contractor and supplier compliance.
“K+S has set excellent safety standards for their workers, and we look forward to helping them maintain and improve those standards,” said Randy Perkins, Canadian Group Supervisor at ISN.
K+S Potash Canada GP is part of the K+S Group, one of the world’s leading suppliers of standard and specialty fertilizers. In the salt business, K+S is the world’s leading producer with sites in Europe as well as North and South America.
